What is VietGAP certification?

VietGAP (Vietnamese Good Agricultural Practices) means: Good Agricultural Practices in Vietnam, issued by the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development for each product, product group of cultivation, fisheries, and livestock.

Conditions for VietGAP certification

VietGAP is Vietnam’s own set of agricultural standards issued on January 28, 2008. Organizations and enterprises that want to achieve VietGAP certification need to meet the following 4 criteria:

  • Standard production techniques.
  • Food safety standards, including measures to ensure the absence of chemical contaminants or physical contamination at harvest.
  • Working environment standards, intended to prevent the abuse of labor force by farmers.
  • Traceability products, this standard allows to identify problems from production to consumption of products.

Specifically, the regulations clearly define the main factors in agricultural production such as: assessment and selection of production areas; varieties and angles; land and substrate management; fertilizers and additives; irrigation water; chemicals (including pesticides); Harvest and post-harvest handling; waste management and treatment; labor safety; recording, record keeping, traceability and product recall; internal check; complaints and complaint resolution.

VietGAP certification consultation process

The VietGAP, Vietnamese quality certification process is carried out through 7 steps as follows:

  • Step 1: Receive registration information for VietGAP certification consulting service from customers.
  • Step 2: Provide specific advice on VietGAP certification services to customers, quote and sign the contract.
  • Step 3: Make a detailed and specific plan on the roadmap and process for implementing VietGAP certification consultancy for each specific product.
  • Step 4: Evaluate the process of manufacturing and preliminary processing inoculants at the enterprise.
  • Step 5: Evaluate the suitability of the enterprise’s production and preliminary processing processes. If the assessment results are appropriate, Viet Quality will implement the procedures and application for VietGAP certification on behalf of the customer.
  • Step 6: Vietnamese quality received VietGAP certificate on behalf of the customer and then handed it over to the customer.
  • Step 7: Quality Viet provides periodic improvement and monitoring services for product quality. Two months before the annual monitoring period, Viet Quality will send a notice to the customer.
Validity VietGAP certificate

The VietGAP certificate is valid for up to 3 years from the date it is issued.

During the validity period of 03 years, there will be periodic monitoring assessments every 12 months. Therefore, businesses need to pay attention to maintaining the production and preliminary processing processes of products in accordance with VietGAP regulations to ensure that the certificate is valid during the validity period.

In fact, it is difficult to give a specific number because this cost depends on many different factors.
